Just south of Jackson is Star Valley; considered by some a destination unto itself.
Located on the Wyoming/Idaho border, this 50 mile long valley offers a wide variety of recreational activities year round. The Palisades Reservoir, with 70 miles of shoreline is fed by three no-table waterways. The Snake River, the Greys River and the Salt River feed into this 16,000 acre reservoir of pristine water offering limitless boating and year round fishing opportunities. Star Valley also borders three national forests. The Bridger-Teton, Targhee and Caribou National Forests and offer an endless supply of camping, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
The community of Alpine is positioned at the north end of the valley and if you continue south on Highway 89 you will travel through the communities of Etna, Star Valley Ranches, Freedom, Thayne, Bedford, Grover, Smoot and Afton. Residents of Star Valley are sure to enjoy the authentic Wyoming character, western heritage, incredible wildlife, spectacular views and wide open spaces.
